The itinerary that goes from Chevrère to Lac de Servaz has illustrated plates and an elevation gain/drop of about 500m. The route winds along an easy rural track up to the pastures at Servaz désot (1540m); from here starts the trail to the lake (1806m).
Just beyond the Alpine pasture farm, after passing an irrigation channel, there is a turn off to the left (trail sign 5b) which leads to the ruins of a mining blast furnace in less than 5 minutes. Returning to trail 5c, takes through the “seed wood” of Mountain Pine up to the lake. From the ruins of the Servaz damon pasture farm you can gaze out over the lake and the whole left side of Val Chalamy between Mont Avic and Mont Barbeston.
Environmental types encountered: meadows-pastures of the valley floor – Scots Pine forest – mountain pasture – Mountain Pine forest - subalpine lake - ophiolite sites.
Brochures describing the main naturalistic, landscape and ethnographic aspects are available at the Park offices; the points of interest are highlighted in each section of the trail, so that even visitors who do not intend to complete the entire proposed itinerary can enjoy the best features. Further leaflets offer supplementary notes relating to natural sciences (geological, geo-morphological and botanical insights, lists of the fauna with details on the locations of the various animal species).
