The Visitor Centre of Mont Avic Natural Park was created by restoring “Villa Biamonti”, a building constructed in the early 20th century as a tourist residence, purchased by the Park from the Municipality in 2006. The restoration aimed to preserve the strongest elements characterising the building, giving a contemporary reinterpretation of some its distinctive aspects  such as the interior use of wood and the distribution flow of the layout. The original basement of the building has been deliberately picked out by covering what is now the ground floor with sheets of Cor-ten weathering steel and off-centring the glass opening to the reception area with respect to the general symmetry of the front. Inside, the staggered vertical connections create a continuous and flowing unitary space, accentuated by separating the horizontal structure from the perimeter walls. Strategically placed openings enable the different levels to be seen. The museum itinerary is captivating, with alternating brightly and softly lit spaces depending on the displays and video projections.
The structure has been designed to meet anti-seismic standards, using materials of low environmental impact, as well as meeting the highest energy efficiency parameters and rationally using renewable resources. The building envelope has been insulated by using wood fibre and extruded polystyrene; heat is generated from a geothermal pump installed in the ground to recover heat through 3 wells 100m deep each located in the building’s access area.
The ground floor holds the information office and a reception room which can be used if necessary by the Authority’s employees. The exhibition area – complementary to the exhibits of the Visitor Centre at Covarey in Champdepraz and designed to actively involve visitors – describes the geological, morphological and biological aspects of the Park's high-altitude environments. On the first floor the most interesting geological and morphological characteristics of the Dondena Valley are illustrated by means of a large number of photos, artefacts, dynamic models and a model on which thematic maps are projected.
The second floor shows the flora, vegetation, fauna and the pastoral activities. Of particular interest are the exhibits showing small and large predators, using models and finds in an unusual perspective.
